Admissions
Applicants to the program are selected based on merit and
aptitude for research as determined by their scholastic records, GRE
scores, letters of recommendation and through interviews with the
INS faculty. A bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized
institution of higher education in the United States or abroad is
required to enter the Graduate program. In general, an average of B
or better in previous academic work is expected. Applicants are also
required to take the GRE. Foreign students must take the TOEFL
examination of proficiency in English. Considerable weight is placed
on the applicant's aptitude for research as evidenced by prior
experience, and on letters of recommendation.
The program receives an average of about 100 completed applications
each year from all over the world. After an initial screening by the
Admissions Committee, all files approved by that committee are reviewed
by the entire faculty and eligible candidates are invited to Rutgers and
UMDNJ for an interview. Four to six outstanding students are admitted
each year. The overall size of the program is about 40 students.
Admissions forms from either Rutgers or UMDNJ can be used to apply to
the Integrative Neuroscience Program. Applications are reviewed and all
decisions are made by a joint committee of Rutgers and UMDNJ faculty.
The DEADLINE
for applications is December 15, 2009. The top
candidates will be invited as a group for an orientation visit and
interview, in February 2010. However, late applications may be
considered on a case by case basis (contact the Graduate Secretary
for information).
